The group consists of:

Barbara Long (lead vocalist) - As former lead vocalist with the group “HIROSHIMA,” she was featured on their two gold albums “Another Place” and “Go.” She has performed at the Beacon Theatre, Greek Theatres, Wolf Trap, Hibiya Concert Hall, Aruba Jazz Festival and others around the world. She is a recipient of a SoulTrain music award and two Gold Records . Based in Sacramento, Barbara is currently the lead vocalist for ‘BABZMATAZZ” and the “EAST WIND BAND.” She brings a powerful, soulful, funky, jazzy energy to the mix.


Kerry Kashiwagi (bass) - A well-known bassist for the “Capital Jazz Project,” Kerry is an acoustic and electric bassist/composer with 20 years of professional experience. He enjoys playing many genres of music including; Improvisational jazz, Straight ahead jazz, Salsa, Folk, and Funk. He has played and or recorded with the Henry Robinett Group, the Tom Peron/ Bud Spangler Interplay Quartet, Richie Cole, John Fedchock, Rio Latin Quintet and Todd Cochran. He has participated in Master classes with Carlos Del Puerto and Gary Carr, and is currently an adjunct professor of Jazz Bass at American River College in Sacramento, California. His latest release is entitled "Keep It Coming" with "Groove Market."


Aaron Garner (keyboards) - A music professor at San Joaquin Delta College, Aaron remains active as a jazz pianist throughout Northern California. He has performed with James Moody, Eddie Harris, Tim Ries, Oscar Brown Jr., John Handy, Woody Herman Band, Scott Whitfield and many others. He holds a BM in Jazz Studies from Sonoma State and an MM in Jazz Studies from San Diego State and has studied classical piano with Frank Wasko at CSUS. He currently teaches music theory, piano, jazz improv, and music appreciation.


Dave Johnson (trumpet) - With over thirty-five years of experience as a professional musician and educator, Dave keeps in high demand as a freelance trumpeter and music teacher. He also currently performs with Sister Swing, Creole Jazz Kings, The Rhythm Vandals, Dean-0-Holics, Harley White Jr. Orchestra, Frankie Soul and No Control Band, Gordon Groft, J Harrison B, George Bruno Big Band, High Class Brass Big Band and his own group. Dave holds a Bachelor of Music Degree in Trumpet Performance from California State University, Sacramento.


Darrell Joe (drums/percussion) - “DJ” is a versatile "drum nerd" that started playing drums in junior high school and has since studied and performed in a wide variety of percussion formats that include; marching band, drum corps, orchestra, jazz ensemble, praise teams, musicals, Funk, Soul, R&B, Gospel, and Latin bands. He has performed as a drummer and percussionist with East Wind, FunkenGruven, Zapato Viejo, Phaze II, and Spankee bands as well as various local praise teams. He is also an experienced soundman and recording engineer.


Fred Chow (guitar) - With over 40 years of experience (funk, R&B, smooth jazz) as a guitarist, Fred is an active musician in the Sacramento area. He gained “the funk” while performing with the Funk Foundation and Cyclone bands and has backed the Temptations and Drifters. He continues to bring his funky, soulful playing to the mix and is known as a consummate professional that is well prepared when called upon.
